Біографія Джорджа Орвелла
Народився в 1903 році в індійському селищі. Індія тоді була колонією Британської імперії. Навчався в школі графства Сассекс, отримав стипендію і вступив до приватного Ітонського коледжу. В 1922 переїхав до англійських східних колоній, де служив у поліції. В 1927 подав у відставку. Жив спочатку в Лондоні, пізніше — в Парижі.
В 1933 написав першу автобіографічну повість «Фунти лиха в Парижі і Лондоні». Через рік надрукував рецензію до праці «Майн Кампф», в якій жорстоко критикував політику Гітлера і Сталіна.
В 1936 одружився і поїхав з дружиною в Іспанію як військовий кореспондент. Там тривала громадянська війна. Був поранений снайпером в горло і повернувся у Великобританію. У 1938 була опублікована книга «Данина Каталонії», в якій розповів про пережиті події. Тоді ж лікарі діагностували у письменника туберкульоз.
Працював на радіо Бі-Бі-Сі та був літературним критиком газети «Tribune». У 1945 після смерті дружини переїхав на острів Джура (на заході Шотландії).
Є автором 10 книг: антисталінський памфлет «Колгосп тварин», антиутопічний роман «1984», соціологічне дослідження «Дорога на Віґан-Пірс» та інші.
Помер у 46 років від туберкульозу.
